Mr. Sakaya Enopa Botu

Executive Dean – School of Humanities

"Embracing futuristic thinking through teaching and research"

I have much pleasure in welcoming you to the School of Humanities. Our motto is “embracing futuristic thinking through teaching and research”, which aligns well with the School’s vision, “to achieve instructional, academic, research and professional excellence”, and strategic focus of the University of Goroka, “creating the future”. The changes and turbulences in the global environment such as Covid-19, climate change, economic crises, political instability, technological innovations along with the government’s futuristic thinking embedded in PNG vision 2050 and strategic development plans and goals for the country, as well as the government’s focus on unifying, transforming and reforming the higher education sector, and reforming the education system challenge universities to refocus and deliver higher education with the futuristic mindset to meet the demands created by these global changes and turbulences.

In response to these demands, as a School, we are committed to delivering higher education in pursuit of instructional, academic, research and professional excellence. We focus on delivering quality and industry-driven courses through qualified and experienced staff under the auspicious of five academic divisions (Division of Language and Literature; Division of Indigenous, Environment and Development Studies; Division of Social Science; Division of Communication and Creative Arts; and Division of Business Studies) with regular review of courses to ensure that quality and standards are maintained; engaging staff and students in research to inform teaching, policy, publication and ultimately address the national and institutional issues; exploring opportunities for research, academic and cultural exchange programs through collaboration and partnerships nationally and internationally; and supporting the University’s plan to digitalise courses of study.

Students are admitted to undergraduate and postgraduate courses across arts and business disciplines including language, literature, linguistics, environment, geography, planning and development, heritage and indigenous knowledge, history, political science, sociology and anthropology, psychology, religious education and personal development, communication and creative arts, accounting, management and economics. Undergraduate programs include Bachelor of Arts Education, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Accounting, Bachelor of Business Management, Bachelor of Business Economics, Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Accounting (distance mode), Diploma in Management (distance mode), and Diploma in Creative Industries. Postgraduate programs are Master of Arts, Executive Master of Leadership in Business Administration, and Bachelor of Arts Honours. Prospective students can contact respective academic divisions and postgraduate studies office for specific details on these programs.

It is hoped that prospective students will find our programs worth undertaking. I wish you all the best in choosing your program of study and be part of the University of Goroka, a University of choice.

To achieve instructional, academic, research and professional excellence.

Embracing futuristic thinking through teaching and research.
