The University of Goroka (UOG) offers a Doctor of Philosophy in most of the disciplines that are offered at postgraduate level. A person interested in taking up doctoral studies may consult the relevant School Dean or Director, Post Graduate Studies.
Entry Requirements:
- Degree of Master or a Bachelor with First Class Honors or equivalent from a Senate-recognized institution shall be eligible to apply to register as a student of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
- Applications should be made to the Chair of Post Graduate Studies Admissions and should include the details required by the prescribed form for Application for doctoral studies and a research proposal.
- The Application, upon receipt, will be registered and forwarded to the relevant School Post Graduate Studies for a recommendation to the Senate or its delegate. A recommendation for registration to doctoral studies must include the proposed name(s) of one or more supervisors.
- Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy, upon admission will be registered provisionally for six months. Students, within the six months will be required to develop and prepare their thesis. At the end of that period Senate or its delegate - to confirm or cancel the student’s candidature - will review the prepared work.

- Minimum GPA of 2.5 obtained from prior diploma or last qualification attained

- Completed four (4) years Apprenticeship Training and acquired NATTB Tradesman Certificate in relevant technical trades.
- Must have at least 5 years work experience after Apprenticeship Training or Engineering Diploma.
- Produce at least two (2) references (character / professional).
- Minimum GPA of 2 obtained from last qualification attained.
- Those that do not have grade 11 and 12 education must matriculate and have attained minimum of B and C grades first before they apply.
- A successful candidate must satisfy either the first and the rest of the criteria or the second and the rest of the criteria to qualify for selection.

5.1 Bachelor of Education in School Management ( in-service) – 4 to 8 Semesters
Entry Requirements
- Diploma in Education or related teaching field (secondary, primary, or vocational & technical education).
- Experienced serving or recently serving principal of a school in the PNG school system or similar.
- Experienced senior teacher or aspiring teacher with proven potential to hold leadership roles in schools as recommended by the Regional Standards Officer or Provincial Education Advisor.
- Special considerations will be given to female teachers and teachers from rural and remote schools.
5.2 Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management – 8 to 12 Semesters
Entry Requirements
- Grade 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.4 or equivalent from recognized institutions.
- C or better in Language and Literature, or B in Applied English.
- C in Advanced Mathematics, or B in General Mathematics.
- C grade or better in Science or Humanities subjects in Year 12.
- Other qualifications and/or experiences as deemed acceptable by the University
- Minimum STAT P percentile of 50
5.3 Diploma in Early Childhood Education – 4 to 8 Semesters
Entry Requirements
- Grade 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.4 on the HSC from recognized institutions.
- C grade or better in Language and Literature or B grade in Applied English
- B grade in General Mathematics or C grade in Advance Mathematics.
- Certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognized institutions and references (both character and professional) within the last five years from the date of application.
- Official Police and Medical clearances must be attached.
- Experiences in childcare activities including First Aid would be an advantage.
